Kolkagta, Dec 08: In the memory of legendary footballer Krishanu Dey, the trophy for the highest scorer in the 123rd IFA Shield tournament has been named after him. This decision was taken by the IFA today.
Krishanu Dey played for East Bengal, Mohun Bagan and India with equal flair, poise and elegance. An attacking midfielder, Krishanu Dey was called the “Indian Maradona” by his fans due to his footballing skills, playing style and appearance.
He passed away in 2003 after a pulmonary disorder.
Meanwhile, the Fair Play trophy has been named after Rony Roy, one of India’s top news photographers who passed away recently.
